The battery you buy once: EcoFlow Delta 2 vs Jackery 1000 Pro vs Goal Zero Yeti 1000X

A 1,000Wh portable battery costs somewhere between EUR 600 and EUR 1,000 depending on which model you choose. That is a meaningful sum, and most people who spend it assume they have made a one-time purchase. They have not. The dominant chemistry in most of the popular units – lithium-ion NMC – degrades under regular cycling. A unit bought today will be running at roughly 80 per cent of its original capacity within two to three years of daily use. By year five, you may be replacing it entirely.
One of the three units compared in this guide uses a different chemistry. That chemistry is rated for three to six times as many charge cycles. It costs the same. The choice between them is not a close call.
What this guide covers
This guide compares three 1,000Wh-class portable batteries: the EcoFlow Delta 2, the Jackery Explorer 1000 Pro, and the Goal Zero Yeti 1000X. All three sit in the same general price bracket and offer comparable capacity for running essential household appliances during grid outages, charging devices over extended off-grid trips, or providing power where no grid connection is available. The question this guide answers is which one you should actually buy, and why the chemistry inside the casing matters more than any headline specification.
NMC and LFP: two chemistries, one decade of difference
Most portable battery packs sold today use NMC cells: lithium-ion with a nickel manganese cobalt cathode. NMC is energy-dense, which means manufacturers can pack more watt-hours into a smaller, lighter unit. It charges quickly and performs well across a wide temperature range. These properties made NMC the default choice for consumer electronics, and by extension for portable battery packs when the category went mainstream.
The limitation of NMC is cycle life. Each full charge-discharge cycle stresses the cathode structure slightly, and that stress accumulates. Manufacturers typically rate NMC packs at 500 to 1,000 full cycles before capacity drops to 80 per cent of rated value. The Jackery Explorer 1000 Pro is rated at 1,000 cycles; the Goal Zero Yeti 1000X at 500. At one cycle per day – a realistic figure if you are running appliances daily through an outage or using the unit as primary power on a van build – 500 cycles is 1.4 years and 1,000 cycles is 2.7 years. Most people who buy a portable battery do not expect to be replacing it at the two-year mark.
LFP (lithium iron phosphate) uses a different cathode material. The iron-phosphate bond is more thermally stable and tolerates deep cycling far better than the NMC structure. EcoFlow rates the Delta 2 at 3,000 full cycles before capacity drops to 80 per cent. At one cycle per day, that is more than eight years. At the more typical two-to-three-day cycling interval for home backup use, the cell chemistry is no longer the limiting factor in the unit’s useful life. The casing, the connectors, and the BMS electronics will likely give out before the cells do. LFP is also less likely to enter thermal runaway under extreme stress, which is why it is the chemistry of choice for grid-scale battery installations and increasingly for EV manufacturers who prioritise longevity over energy density.
The trade-off is real: LFP cells are slightly heavier per watt-hour than NMC, and they lose capacity faster below freezing. If you primarily use your battery pack outdoors in sub-zero temperatures, NMC is more suitable. For home backup, camping above zero, or any use case where long-term value is the priority, LFP is the better chemistry by a wide margin.
What all three get right
At roughly 1,000Wh, all three units cover the same practical use cases reliably. A full charge will run a standard domestic fridge for eight to twelve hours, power a CPAP machine through an overnight outage, charge a laptop roughly twenty times, or run LED lighting in a caravan for several days without interruption. None of these units is underpowered for the tasks people actually buy them for.
All three include multiple AC outlets, USB-A and USB-C Power Delivery ports, and a 12V car socket. All three support recharging from a standard wall socket, from a car DC outlet, and from compatible solar panels via an integrated MPPT charge controller. The MPPT integration matters: it adjusts the charging voltage dynamically to extract maximum power from the solar array under variable cloud and sun-angle conditions, rather than working at a fixed suboptimal point. You get meaningfully more energy from the same panel area.
Solar input capacity is broadly comparable: the EcoFlow Delta 2 accepts up to 500W of solar input; the Jackery Explorer 1000 Pro up to 200W; the Goal Zero Yeti 1000X up to 300W. The EcoFlow is the clear outlier here, though the solar ceiling is only relevant if you are pairing the unit with a larger panel array.
Where they differ
The differences between the three units are more significant than their similarities suggest at first glance.

Four things stand out.
The cycle life gap is the central argument. At 3,000 cycles, the EcoFlow Delta 2 will outlast the Jackery Explorer 1000 Pro by a factor of three and the Goal Zero Yeti 1000X by a factor of six. Run the arithmetic: if you replace the Goal Zero every 500 days of use and the Jackery every 1,000 days, you will have replaced each of them three times before the EcoFlow has reached half its rated cycle life. At EUR 599 per replacement, the NMC units are significantly more expensive over a decade.
The AC output gap matters for real use. The EcoFlow’s 1,800W continuous output handles the appliances that actually matter in an outage: a standard microwave runs at 700 to 1,100W, a hair dryer at 1,200 to 1,500W, a kettle at 1,500W. The Jackery’s 1,000W continuous limit is a meaningful constraint. You will hit the overload threshold running a hair dryer at full power, boiling a kettle, or using a mid-range microwave. The unit will handle lighter use fine, but you lose flexibility at the appliances most people reach for first. The Goal Zero Yeti 1000X runs at 1,500W continuous (1,800V AC 230V EU version), comparable to the EcoFlow, though it weighs 14.4kg and costs more in Europe.
The EU availability gap disqualifies the Goal Zero for most European buyers. The official goalzero.eu website lists the Yeti 1000X at EUR 0, a placeholder indicating the product is not actively priced for European sale. Third-party EU retailers carry stock at highly variable and generally elevated prices. The unit’s warranty service infrastructure in Europe is also limited relative to EcoFlow, which has a European distribution operation and active EU customer support. Goal Zero is a strong product in the North American market, where it is priced and supported competitively. For European buyers, it is a procurement complication with no compensating advantage.
The recharge speed difference is less decisive but worth noting. The EcoFlow Delta 2’s X-Stream technology can recharge from 0 to 80 per cent in under 50 minutes from a standard wall socket at maximum AC input (1,200W). The Jackery takes under two hours. If you are managing outages where the grid returns unpredictably and you want to top up the unit during brief windows of power, the EcoFlow’s speed is a real operational advantage.
The recommendation
Buy the EcoFlow Delta 2.
At EUR 599 – the same price as the Jackery Explorer 1000 Pro – you get LFP chemistry, 3,000 rated cycles, 1,800W AC output, faster recharging, higher solar input capacity, and a 5-year warranty. There is no meaningful trade-off against the Jackery at this price. The Jackery is a competently made unit with a clean interface and a well-established repair and support network in Europe, but its NMC chemistry puts it on a different depreciation curve. You are not buying a different product at the same price. You are buying a three-year asset versus an eight-year one.
The Goal Zero Yeti 1000X is a harder case to make for any European buyer. The 500-cycle NMC chemistry, the 2-year warranty, the limited EU distribution, and the elevated pricing in European markets combine to make it the weakest option in this comparison regardless of its strengths in the US market. It earns its reputation in North America, where it is priced competitively, supported well, and widely available. In Europe in 2026, it does not.
The EcoFlow Delta 2 is also expandable. A Smart Extra Battery connects to the base unit to push usable capacity to 2,048Wh; a second expansion takes it to 3,072Wh. Neither the Jackery Explorer 1000 Pro nor the Goal Zero Yeti 1000X offers a comparable expansion path without buying an entirely new unit. If your energy needs grow – more appliances, longer backup windows, a gradual move toward partial off-grid operation – the Delta 2 is infrastructure you can build on.
Why the right time to buy is now
Grid stress is increasing, not decreasing. The combination of ageing transmission infrastructure, rising demand from EV charging and heat pumps, greater reliance on intermittent renewables, and an accelerating pattern of severe weather events is producing more frequent and longer outage events across Europe and North America. The Texas grid events of 2021, the European gas and nuclear supply shortfalls of 2022, and the ongoing pattern of storm-related outages across northern Europe are not anomalies. They are early evidence of a grid that is increasingly operating close to its limits. LFP is also the chemistry of industrial-scale storage. The same thermal stability and cycle durability that makes it the right choice for a portable unit makes it the right choice for the shipping-container battery installations that grid operators, utilities, and commercial facilities are now deploying at scale. Industrial demand for LFP cells is rising sharply as battery storage becomes a standard component of grid architecture. Consumer prices do not move in a separate channel from industrial prices for long. The EUR 599 EcoFlow Delta 2 is priced in a market where LFP is still primarily a consumer electronics purchase. That pricing is unlikely to hold as grid-scale deployment accelerates.
A useful frame: the same logic that applies to buying a well-made pair of boots or a repairable laptop applies here. You are paying once for something with a long productive life, rather than paying repeatedly for something that degrades on a short cycle. The arithmetic is the same.
