The periodic table is a list of finite things.
There are 118 elements. That number will not change. Hydrogen and helium are not going to get cheaper to produce because a language model is better at reasoning. Osmium – the densest naturally occurring element, mined primarily as a byproduct of platinum extraction in South Africa and Russia – has a global annual production of approximately 100 to 500 kilograms. Every year. The entire world’s osmium production for a year weighs about as much as a small motorcycle. You cannot synthesise more. You cannot mine it faster. The deposit either exists or it does not.

What Luciteria sells
Luciteria is a US-based company that sells physical samples of the elements, primarily in two formats.
The first format is element samples embedded in clear acrylic cubes: a real, physical piece of each element – copper, tungsten, bismuth, neodymium, osmium – set in optical-grade acrylic that preserves it indefinitely. A single element cube is typically USD 10 to USD 60 depending on the element’s rarity and the cost of obtaining a pure sample. The full “One of Each” collection – 85 accessible elements in a display case – is USD 699. For EU buyers, the company ships via UPS and DHL, with standard international shipping adding USD 30 to USD 70 depending on size and destination.
The second format is precision density cubes: solid metal blocks (typically 10mm x 10mm x 10mm or larger) machined to show the relative density differences between metals. A copper density cube at this scale feels distinctly heavier than an aluminium one of the same size; an osmium cube of the same dimensions feels absurdly heavy – almost incomprehensibly dense for its volume. The density cube sets start at a few hundred dollars for a four or five-metal starter set and scale to over USD 25,000 for a complete multi-element density cube collection.
Why this belongs in the real-asset category
Most real-asset purchases this site covers are functional: a home battery stores energy, an axe splits wood, a fountain pen writes. An element display or density cube does not produce anything. It sits on a shelf.
This is the same position that a gold coin occupies. It also sits on a shelf. It also does not produce anything. Its value is not derived from utility – it is derived from genuine physical scarcity and the accumulated human valuation of the material.
The argument for element ownership is similar but more specific. Copper is not just scarce as a commodity; it is the specific material that makes modern electrical infrastructure work, and there is no substitute at scale. Osmium is so rare that most people who have heard of it have never held a gram of it. Indium, which makes touchscreens work, has no large-scale primary mining source – it is extracted entirely as a byproduct of zinc smelting. The list of elements whose supply is structurally constrained is longer than most buyers realise.
An element collection is a physical record of that scarcity: you are holding the actual finite matter, not a derivative or a claim on it, not a fund or an ETF, not a promise. The acrylic cube contains the thing itself.
Entry points and what to buy
The accessible entry for EU buyers is the element sample collection. At USD 699 for 85 elements (approximately EUR 650 to EUR 700 delivered, depending on VAT treatment for educational imports), the “One of Each” set is a meaningful object – the kind of thing you put on a desk, show to people, and explain at length. It makes the thesis visible and concrete in a way that a spreadsheet of commodity positions does not.
If the goal is a single acquisition rather than a full collection, the density cube sets offer a more focused version of the same thesis. A four-metal starter set (aluminium, copper, titanium, tungsten, for example) shows the density relationship between common industrial metals in your hand. Copper at 8.9 g/cm3 versus aluminium at 2.7 g/cm3. The same volume, three times the weight. The physics of scarcity made tactile.
For buyers who want exposure to genuinely rare elements: osmium, rhenium, and iridium are the three densest stable elements, and all three are extracted in quantities measured in hundreds of kilograms annually worldwide. A single osmium cube the size of a fingernail weighs more than you expect and costs more than you expect. That relationship between size and cost is the scarcity signal made physical.
A note on VAT for EU buyers
Physical precious metals (gold, silver, platinum) are VAT-exempt in the EU when purchased as investment-grade bars or coins. Physical copper, nickel, and most other elements are not: they are subject to standard VAT at 19% to 25% depending on the member state. Luciteria products, being primarily classified as educational or decorative items rather than investment-grade metal, are typically subject to standard import duties and VAT on the declared value of the shipment. Factor this into the total cost when purchasing from outside the EU.
The through-line
The case for buying now on this site rests on the gap between inputs that can be reproduced cheaply (cognitive work, software, manufactured goods) and inputs that cannot (copper, rare earths, elements with finite global supply). An element collection is the most direct physical expression of that gap: you are holding the bounded-supply side of the curve in your hand.
